How Do I Calm My Parrot?

A noisy parrot can be frustrating at the end of a long day.  If your bird shrieks loudly and flaps their wings, it can be headache inducing.  Fortunately, there are ways to help your parrot relax.
How to Calm Your Parrot:

• Stay Calm - First and foremost, it is important that you stay calm while training your bird.  Parrots love attention, even if the attention is negative. You want to make sure that you do not condition your parrot to squawk loudly when attention is wanted.
  
• Help Them Sleep - It's possible that your parrot is not getting enough sleep at night.  Just like you and me, parrots need a good nights sleep in order to feel their best.  If your parrot is having trouble sleeping, try putting a towel over their cage to eliminate distractions.
  
• Check Their Diet - Pellets, fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes and certain nuts can contribute to the overall well-being of your parrot.  Make sure that they have a healthy diet to avoid excess yelling.
  
• Offer Plenty of Toys - Enriching toys are a great way to help your parrot stay occupied and keep them busy and entertained.  Rotate out toys so that your parrot doesn't become bored of old toys.
  
• Reward Calm Behavior - Pay attention to when your bird is behaving quietly and reward those moments with special treats or toys.  This will help condition and encourage good behavior.
